Six years. That’s how long I’ve been working on and refining this Spiced Cranberry Sauce With Coconut Sugar recipe. Last year I got it next to perfect and shared the recipe in my Instagram stories. This year I took it a step further and put some finishing touches on.

I know what you are thinking. You are thinking, “Really, Shayla. Does the internet really need another cranberry sauce recipe?”

I’m tell you, yes. Yes it does. Once you taste my spiced cranberry sauce with coconut sugar you’ll see what I’m talking about.

I love gravy, but to me a Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey is not the same without cranberry sauce. When I was a child I would have hated this sauce. If it didn’t come all glumpy and from the can then it was creepy. Of course then I grew up, and developed a taste for things like champagne….

The secret to my sauce includes ingredients like nutmeg essential oil, orange juice concentrate (it must be concentrate), raisins, anise extract and champagne. Oh yes, and we mustn’t forget the cranberries.

Spiced Cranberry Sauce With Coconut Sugar also contains coconut sugar (hence the name) and raisins for just the right amount of sweetness as opposed to sugar. I don’t know about you, but I like to try to keep my refined sugar consumption down during the holidays. Part of the reason for this is of course for health reasons, but also because too much sugar does a terrible number on me, and when I combine sugar and any kind of fruit I end up with health issues.

So whenever I can I use honey, coconut sugar and maple or brown rice syrup in my recipes-especially during holidays when we are making and eating more sweets than normal.

In this recipe you may want to swap out the coconut sugar for brown rice syrup if you don’t like the taste that coconut sugar gives foods. If you are not familiar with coconut sugar it has a definite flavor, similar to date sugar in my opinion. One of the nice things about it is that it contains trace minerals and vitamins and according to Dr. Axe, it may help boost the immune system instead of taxing it like regular refined sugar.
