Perfect Holiday Dress For Moms 2

Perfect Holiday Dress For Moms

If I tell you all about the perfect holiday dress for moms that I found you have to PROMISE me something. You can’t tell my husband! No, it’s not because I don’t want him to know I spent the money, we don’t usually roll like that, lol!

The reason why is because I know he’s going to LOVE me in this dress and I want to surprise him on Thanksgiving Day! So promise not to spoil the surprise!

Okay, it’s not often that I am able to do TWO posts a week, but recently I found this most perfect holiday dress for moms and I knew some of you out there would want to snag it in time for the holidays, so I decided to whip this post up pronto for my lady follower friends out there. I especially wanted to share the news of this dress for you mama’s who are in the pregnant/nursing stages of life since I know it can be SUPER hard for you to find dresses that work for your constantly changing bodies and make you feel beautiful at the same time!!

So there’s a little story leading up to finding this dress. It starts with being super bummed out.

I don’t know what the pandemic restrictions are in your state, but in our state they just became super strict again. Most our family isn’t going to be coming to Thanksgiving dinner, so I’ve been pretty sad about this.

After a cry or two I decided that I still have plenty of reasons to celebrate and throw lavish holiday parties this year….after all we are a family of 8! So I’m planning to have our regular Thanksgiving/Christmas with all the trimmings.

I always try to dress up a little for the holidays, but the last couple years I’ve had just one problem. My body has changed so much in the last two years- hashimoto’s hypothyroidism has really done a number on me! Because of hashi’s, my size is constantly fluxing between a size 8 and sometimes all the way up to size 12. This makes my wardrobe super fickle. To top it off all my dresses and the majority of my skirts are ALL for summer (I’ve not yet actively built up a warm winter dresses/skirts wardrobe).

I had been keeping an eye out at the second hand store for warmer, maxi dresses (that were not polyester-I cannot stand the feeling of polyester on my skin). Alas….there were never any. So I decided to take a chance and see if I could cheer myself by finding a fairly priced maxi dress with long sleeves.

I wanted either cotton or rayon, and so I searched by filters and found this one for $25.99! Although I loved the look of it was super nervous to try it. So often when I get things on Amazon they don’t fit quite right-and it’s always so hard to tell if something is going to work or not. I was pretty sure the waistline wouldn’t fall in the right place on me because that’s a problem I have with a lot of empire waist dresses.

BTW, Anyone else wish retailers would use average sized women as models? Please tell me I’m not the only one! I’m BEYOND sick of trying to figure out if the garment in the highly photoshopped advertisement on the size 1 will look good on my real, 6x mama body!

Anyways, I looked through the reviews that real, un-photoshopped women were leaving on this dress and saw that others that were my height and size love the dress, some posted pictures as well as their weight and height which was super helpful, so I decided to give it a try. I would have preferred a solid dress but I’ve learned solid colors and babies just don’t mix, lol! So I played it safe and went with a print.

Friends, I absolutely LOVE this dress! I would like to get another one at some point since cool weather lasts so long here. It’s Sooooooo comfortable, and I believe it will fit a variety of body shapes and sizes and still be attractive.

Perfect Holiday Dress For Moms

Here’s what I love most about this perfect holiday dress for moms;

  • It has a deep v neck-which is always a good choice for rectangle’s, pears, apples
  • The v neck can be adjusted however you like for modesty purposes
  • The empire waste perfectly hides what I refer too is “mummy tummy” (if you have multiple kids you know exactly what I’m talkin about)
  • It’s warm
  • The pockets are perfectly placed (I normally hate pockets because as a petite they always get caught on door and cabinet handles and the garment rips-or else they are placed to low and add bulk to my thighs/hips which are the widest point of my body)
  • It’s flowy and forgiving-but since it’s rayon it doesn’t get staticky like polyester on my skin
  • It comes in a variety of prints and colors

If you have read my post Discover Your Body Shape you know how it’s so important to know and dress for your body shape and scale if you want a put together look. One of the things I love about this dress is how forgiving it is for fluxing sizes and shapes. In the pictures below I was a size 10 and definitely more rectangle (I go between a pear and rectangle), but the dress did wonders for balancing my proportions out.
