Hello, I’m Shayla, the blogger here at Singing A New Song. My purpose with this space is to validate exhausted, overwhelmed family women & help them learn a “new song” of self acceptance, purpose, intention, & PRAISE regardless of their backgrounds. My hope is that this space becomes an oasis-a place for you to come to & recharge & refill-kind of like those rare quiet mornings with a hot cup of coffee before everyone else is up!

Singing A New Song is based on Psalms 40:3 “He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear and will trust in the LORD.”

About Me & SNS’s Edge

I have a unique vantage point in that I’m a second generation homeschooler plus mom of 6 wildlings from teen to tot. For the last 17 years I’ve been either pregnant, nursing newbies, or chasing toddlers. We started homeschooling our oldest in 2009 and currently have kids in high, middle, elementary and preschool, two have clinically diagnosed adhd and another has additional learning challenges. For many of the past years I’ve also been a work at home mom. Since 2018 I’ve been mentoring new homeschool mama’s as they get started on their home educating journey.

Interesting things about me;

  • Like two of my kids I have ADHD
  • I’m an auto immune + anxiety warrior
  • It took me the sting of going through 3 churches and most my adult life to learn that home church works too-and it can be done all week long wherever you are (I’m not religious but I’m a Christian)
  • I believe a person can have Jesus and a counselor too (although I acknowledge one might not need a counselor if they can just find the right church for them)
  • My favorite places are near water

Listen, Mama, something I really want you to know is that although our circumstances may differ, I know “hard” and I get it. That is why I started Singing A New Song!

Listen, being a Godly woman in the thick of raising a family in today’s world is by far one of the hardest jobs.

Some day’s can be beautiful, but then there are other days so hard you may wonder if God is present in them.

You’ll never hear this mama tell you cliché’s like “enjoy every moment because it goes to quickly”.

Yea, it does go too quickly, depressingly fast to be exact. But let’s be honest. Not EVERY moment of this journey is enjoyable.

I Know What You Need….

I’m no expert but I do have a very important message to share.

I believe women trying to raise Godly families need validation, empathy, & practical, applicable solution choices to problems they deal with on a daily basis. I say choices because they need to be able to choose solutions that work for them & their family-not a one size fits all cliché.

Think of me as that friend that validates you with a resounding, “Me too!” and then share’s a range of idea’s I found, heard or read about to help make things better!

Friends, the battle is real, but I created this blog because through these years I’ve discovered a few secrets that help me overcome the overwhelm, forge a peaceful, productive, & beautiful home & family life and thriving marriage. I love sharing ways I discover weekly to balance boundaries with acceptance & grace for myself & others, & how this leads to finding actual enjoyment instead of drudgery in things like caring for & teaching my kids, domestic arts & the endless to do lists.

Although I still experience moments so bad that they call out the sailor mouth in me (or at least tempt too), I’m excited to tell you that I found ways to see beauty in every day & create a mindset & home that ministers to others including myself as a mama and wife!!!
