Love at Home Education Curriculum Review

It’s that time of year again when Homeschool mama’s everywhere have begun researching, shopping and some are already purchasing the next year’s curriculum. Today I’m excited to share this Love at Home Education Curriculum Review with you all. I found Love at Home Education a little while back when Sarah hired me to help her with branding assistance. She gave me one of her unit studies to use in some images I did for her, and I knew right away I wanted to do a review for her eventually because I was impressed at first sight by what she has to offer.

Then a couple weeks ago Sarah asked asked me if I would be willing to do a review of her brand new-hot off the press K-12 Spelling & Vocabulary Curriculum. I was delighted to say YES!

In this post I decided to review both, her unit studies and the Spelling and Vocabulary Family Textbook.

What Is Love at Home Education?

Love at Home Education is a truly special homeschool unit study curriculum that offers secular and religious options, and is packed with multiple advantages. I believe these advantages are largely due to the fact that the curriculum is designed by second generation homeschooler Sarah Bean (learn more about her here). Sarah was homeschooled and is now homeschooling her own children. So you could accurately say, Sarah knows the homeschooling ropes!

Although Love at Home Education doesn’t yet provide complete curriculum sets, what they do provide are solid, quality units at affordable prices.

Our Experience With Love at Home Education K-12 Spelling & Vocabulary Curriculum

The first thing I noticed about the vocabulary textbook as well as the unit study was that the instructions are simple and clear. The font’s used appeal to the kids, and I found that I had to do very little explaining on how to get started. I explained a few things in the beginning but the kids understood how to use the curriculum almost immediately and they all just kind of took off with it!

Because of this I would definitely call the Spelling and Vocabulary largely student led for able readers 9 and up.

The second thing I noticed was that there were a whopping 79 pages in the Spelling and Vocabulary Family Textbook! So you will definitely get your money’s worth.

Here are a few words from Sarah about it that I found to be accurate;

Our curriculum is different because;

1. It’s ONE book for everyone! Use the same textbook for years of learning.

2. It’s themed, life based learning. Our 9 monthly themes are directly life applicable!!

3. Your whole homeschooling family can use it together, at the same time. Learn about the same things, and apply them on different levels!

Who out there would like shorter, but higher quality teaching time?? That is what you will get with curriculum’s like Sarah’s unit studies! There are a few reasons for this.

One of the reasons is the fact that Love at Home Education provides quality unit studies. If you are not familiar with unit studies, they are basically where you pick a theme and tie in subjects such as social studies, science, language arts (and even math in some cases) to the chosen theme. The result is effective learning in less time (I know public school teachers that rave about unit studies-speaking of which be sure to check out Love at Home Education’s Teachers Pay Teachers page).

Unit studies usually teach to children of various learning styles as they include a more hand’s on approach. This of course is appealing to all ages but is especially critical to elementary and middle schoolers since the hands on approach helps assure the lesson is remembered.

Another advantage, and consequently a parent’s sanity saving grace, to unit studies (with Love at Home Education being no exception) is that you can school multiple children in multiple grades at the same time.

Yes, you read that right! Love at Home Education’s tagline reads;

A dinner-table friendly, all inclusive, family curriculum that your highschooler and kindergartener can learn together on their own levels.

Homeschooling + Homemaking mama’s know what that means-it means you can homeschool your kids and have time to make dinner too!! 😂 Maybe even get a load of laundry in! 😂

Our family has been using and thriving on group unit studies for around three years now. One of the many reasons we personally love group unit studies is because since they provide an opportunity for the children to learn together it makes for excellent and lively discussions, and sometimes even debates about the topic being studied. Studies have shown that people learn 90% of what they teach and so I love how unit studies give all the kids a foundation and opportunity to share and “teach” their siblings what they have learned and therefore drive the lesson home in their own minds.

Love At Home Education Review

I think that Love at Home Education’s unit studies would be an excellent and affordable choice for kids that are coming out of public school and who need a period of deschooling, especially if they need to work at their own pace (be that fast or slow).

It would also be a great option for kids that have grown to dislike school. Parents could easily re-ignite their child’s love of learning and help them feel empowered by scrolling through all that is offered by Love at Home Education with their child, and by allowing their child to pick topics to study that they are interested in.

One of the disadvantages to unit studies in general is if you are creating your own they take time and planning to prepare. This won’t be an issue if you choose Love at Home Education though since Sarah has already covered the planning for you!

Lastly, all of Sarah’s Unit studies are very affordable. I will say, however, make sure you have fresh ink cartridges before you go to print. This is especially important if you get the Spelling and Vocabulary curriculum (I did mention it’s 79 pages, right?!

Love at Home Education is a newer business, and I’m looking forward to seeing what more Sarah adds to the store as time goes on because so far my large brood love using her materials! Whether you are a teacher, a homeschooling parent, or a parent that wants to supplement your kids education through the summer I think you will appreciate everything this curriculum has to offer.

  1. My son is 3 and I’ve been thinking of homeschooling. Knowing there are such great systems out there for curriculum planning is so helpful and comforting!

  2. I’m not a homeschooler but with it being summer I’m always looking for ways to keep my kids learning going throughout the summer. This looks like a great resource!

  3. I love their colorful graphics and designs! Random fact: I was homeschooled through 8th grade (I hated it) but my brother thrived with homeschooling and did it all the way through highschool.

  4. Hi, As a teacher of 20 years who left the school system because I was tired of teaching to a test and playing by a set of broken district rules, I really loved this idea of teaching within a unit of study. And, you can measure the success of the units by the lively discussions the kids are having. Thanks for sharing! Melissa Damiani | Gratitude Grace Glamour
