Last week I shared our Pre-K through 2nd grade homeschool curriculum choices, and in this post I’ll share 3rd-7th Grade Homeschool Curriculum Choices. Soon I’ll try to get to the highschool choices!
So this year I decided to break away from MFW. I’ll probably put some children back into it in the future and I still highly recommend it, especially Exploring Countries and Cultures. The reason’s I am breaking away this year are as follows;
- It will not work for my highschooler-since he has ADD (also known as ADHD type 1). MFW curriculum is wonderfully beefy literature wise, but the amount of reading would not be possible for him to complete in two years let alone one and it doesn’t cover all the subjects I want him to take. I suspect I’ll return to MFW or at least use a large portion of MFW highschool for my future children though.
- I have some special area’s I want to work on with my middle scholar and my elementary scholar in. Planning my oldest son’s next 4 years has given me some extra insight as to some area’s I would like for my other children to master before they hit 9th grade, and since MFW comes with a full open and go plan (one of the reasons I love it) I won’t be able to add as much to it as I would like to for my upper elementary and middle scholar.
- For my lower elementary grades I do not actually use MFW because I have so much other curriculum to use for them and I also have some early elementary favorites I love that have worked so well for my others that I don’t want to deviate from.

This is really interesting…even if I don’t have kids x
I’ve considered homeschooling my kids. I didn’t realize that there were so many resources online to make the transition easier. Thanks for sharing all your tips and advice – I can see you’re passionate about what you do.
You have so much good information here for teaching on this blog. Even if you just want to get ahead in your child’s learning, these work.
This is so interesting! I need to look more into homeschooling for the future
I’m seriously considering homeschool for next year. Sending your kids to school is not what it used to be.
I don’t have kids yet but it’s never too early to learn what I’ll be into once I have them 🙂
I’d love to homeschool my kiddos when they are school age, and I love that you took the time to share your curriculum choices here. I’m definitely sharing with my homeschooling friends!
This is a great resource for parents who choose to home school! The curriculum you have planned sounds great!!!
What a great curriculum you have laid out! It’s awesome that you’re still ensuring that your kids learn proper handwriting. So many children are losing that ability!
We did MFW for a couple of years, but I feel like we outgrew them. Now we have a WIDE variety of different brands. It’s almost daunting to keep track of them.
That could be happening with us too. I’m not sure yet! I feel like they helped give me wings to plan and fly with our homeschool for sure!
This was very interesting, as I’ve always wondered what material is used for homeschooling. You have some great ideas here.
It’s wonderful to know that there are so many options out there for homeschooling. Thank you for breaking them down.
This is going to help homeschooler so much!
I am years away from this but definitely starting to question whether I will homeschool or not!
We are actually in the process of deciding whether or not we will homeschool next year. I’m seriously considering it, but afraid of all that is involved.
That is neat, Heather! I think you can do it!! I’m here for you if you have any questions!!
