The Importance of Chores for Keeping The Peace
I’m so excited to tell parents out there about the best effective chore chart system for kids that I’ve ever used because I’ve used a few, and so many just create more trouble than they are worth! This is the only one that didn’t do that for our big crazy family! But before I talk about the Best Effective Chore Chart System for Kids let’s talk about why it’s important for kids to do chores.
One of the most helpful ways to keep family chaos to a minimum and in keeping things running smoothly and productively is making sure chores are done. Without fail, not long after a few chores are forgotten or when something happens to disrupt the chore system it isn’t very long before chaos rules and life for everyone get’s miserable!
A great example is dishes. This is especially critical in bigger families. Big families dirty through all the plates and cups after just a couple meals. So if someone forgets to wash the dishes it’s not even one day before there are no clean dishes to eat off of!
And you think public restrooms are bad? Well, if bathrooms in a big family are not at least spot cleaned daily-lets just say they can make some public restrooms look inviting, lol!
I know there are some mom’s out there that pride themselves in doing it all-and don’t assign chores. I assuming if you are here you are not one of these moms! But if you wonder whether or not chores are good for kids, or if you feel guilty for having your kids do chores, READ THIS ARTICLE and THIS ARTICLE, According to it kids who were given chores were/are predicted to have better health and well being later in life, and become happier. I suggest reading the whole article if you have time!
But let’s face it, if you have a big family it’s not even possible for you to do it all. Especially if you are homeschooling too.
The Challenge-Finding Effective Chore Charts that actually work
The challenge lies in effective chore charts. Again, some chore charts can be more trouble than they are worth if you have a big family.
Around three or four years ago after trying this and that with limited success, we were at some friends home when I noticed her chore system. Apparently she found it at a homeschool convention (you gotta love those)!
Although it was expensive for us because of how many kids we have, we decided the system looked too good to pass. And we were getting desperate! So we “splurged” on the system and it proved to be more than worth every penny.
Over the years, as long as we stuck to this system things around the house went smoothly for us!
Last year our family relocated from the Midwest to the Pacific Northwest. When we moved into our new home I thought I would try doing a different system because I wanted to take my time to figure out the best location for the system. In the meantime I created chore charts and posted them on the fridge.
After several months of hounding the kids and listening to them bicker and argue among themselves, and constantly finding chores undone, I had to face the fact that the new fridge system was NOT working by any stretch of the imagination, and was NEVER going to work.
I think I know why too. Just the sight of it was too much for the eyes.
“THAT’S IT!” I exclaimed one day. “We are getting the old chore chart system set up THIS weekend!!!”
Setting Up The Best Effective Chore Chart System for Kids
So my husband and I went into storage and found the chore chart system, and spent some time over the weekend setting up the boards.
It wasn’t even halfway through the first day back on the system before I noticed a major change, and a new level of peace in our home. One of my favorite thing about this system is that the kids are more responsible for themselves while using it.
After two weeks and I was kicking myself for not having re-established the amazing system sooner.

Benefits of This System
Here are nine benefits we notice and love about the Best Effective Chore Chart System for Kids when we are using sticking to it;
- chores get done
- I don’t have to hound the kids nearly as much as I used to
- the kids don’t argue over who’s turn it is to do tasks any longer so there is more peace in our home
- the kids report that this system makes chores more fun, and makes knowing what to do easier then the refrigerator system
- the kids are more excited about doing their chores because of the rewards that are incorporated with this system
- stress levels have gone way down for everyone
- it seems as though the kids have more free time
- Once set up, this system is no fuss-there is no need to re-do it each week like with many other systems
- This system works for ADD and ADHD kids since it doesn’t overwhelm them by the sight of it
When I created the new system I had some criteria’s I wanted to meet.
- I wanted my system to even easier to use then the first one
- I wanted to be faith based with a secular option
- I wanted it to include some character and habit training options (we aspire to Charlotte Mason pedagogy
- as an artist I wanted a system that was beautiful and would look pretty on the wall
I think we achieved this! Take a look!
I created a few ways to use this system so families could choose what works best for them. I will go into further detail on how to use these in the instructions that come as a pdf when you purchase the system, and you can find the details in the video presentation above.
UPDATE1/21/2020
I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve recently added additional cards and options to my system!
The NEW SYSTEM
How The Best Effective Chore Chart System for Kids Works-Spoiler Alert, It’s SO EASY!
I’ll explain our favorite way to use the chore chart system. We like the board system (shown below). My husband is a carpenter/woodworker so he made ours with a wood that complimented our decor 😀 . We keep our’s in our hallway.
After you purchase and download the Best Effective Chore Chart System for Kids, you can select which ones you want to use for each child, print them, and cut them out. After you put them in the order you want the chores to be done in you can start using them!
Above-place the daily chores on the first hook.
As your child finishes each chore, they simply take the completed chore card off the hook……
….then they spin it around and place it on the next hook.
TIP; I numbered the cards because every-now and then a child will accidentally spill them, or a random gust of wind blows them off, lol! I found that numbering the cards and putting the children’s initial on their card helps to make it fast and easy to put them back in order if they are spilled. If you are going to use this tip I do recommend using the system for a couple days first to make sure you have the cards in the order you want them -writing lightly in pencil is a good idea so you can change them if needed.
Another tip; on the bottom of the card you can write M for morning, A for afternoon or after lunch, and E for evening so your child knows when to do the chores.
Above- There are five hooks. We use the first two hooks for the weekdays, and the 3rd and 4th hooks for weekend and once a month chores and activities.
The last hook is for rewards, which is perhaps one of the most important pieces to making the system work (kids are not as motivated to complete chores if there is never a reward).
The Best Effective Chore Chart System for Kids is by far the most effective, easiest, and fun system we’ve ever found for helping keep our kids on track when it comes to doing chores and keeping big family chaos to manageable level! We are so thrilled to be able to offer this product to you and we hope it helps tame craziness in your home like it has ours!

Notice; This post Best Effective Chore Chart System for Kids, was originally written as a review of our favorite chore chart system. After two months of publishing this post a reader informed me that the company that made the system I initially wrote about was going out of business and they asked me if I could help them find something similar.
After multiple attempts to contact the company of the original chore chart system they eventually got back with me and confirmed that they were in fact going out of business. So for myself and my readers, I decided that I would start from scratch, and create an updated, even better chore chart system with more variations than the initial system, and that I would make it a digital product people could download.

I love this idea. I think it would super cool to be able to purchase the whole kit, meaning printed cards (maybe with a choice of how many kids?), the beautiful board with hooks already attached! As a busy mama it’s hard to find time to to do all the things. I’m loving all of your ideas, thank you for sharing with us!
Thank you, Brianne! I would like to offer it with the boards, that is something we are working on!

This is a really great idea. I need to do better of making a chore list for my kids so that they know what to do and I don’t always have to tell them.
This is such a great idea! Chores are a struggle in our house.
I really like the idea of this chore chart. It gives kids the chance to really visually check things off their list of to-dos.
Hi I wanted to see if you have any sport cards or after school activity cards. Do you think these are even necessary. I love the prayer card and reading the Bible. It’s great to see a faith based product.
Thank you,
Shannon
Shannon, this is a great idea! I’ll work on creating some! Can you give me a few specific ones you would like to see?
I love this! We have been trying to get the kids more involved with chores around the house, and it has been a lot more difficult than I had thought. Printing these out tomorrow!

Such smart ideas. Great job.
we have tried and failed many times to set up chore charts. This does look simple though so we will try it out.
My mom used something similar to this when we were growing up. I seem to recall it worked quite well for me (the pleaser in the family) than it did for my brother lol.
This chore chart is a great idea for the kids. I have a chore chart but nothing like your idea.
This looks like a fantastic chore chart. I could do with implementing something like this at home as my teen is a nightmare and never wants to help with chores!!

I really love this system! Having a physical card to move after the completion of a chore would be so satisfying for my youngest. Also, the art work is so pretty!
Thank you, Christa! Being able to physically move “the chore” over is very satisfying for kids and part of why it works so well! The art work is something I really wanted to be beautiful for mama’s that like having beautiful things around their home!
This looks amazing, I bet it works like a charmer
OH I love this! My kids like to have a “to do” list but they always want it to change so we can’t use a static list…this is also looks good hung up!
My goodness! This is the cutest chore chart I’ve ever seen! Love it.
What a great idea! My kids are still toddlers but I’m sure I’ll be putting this into play as they get older.

What a great idea! My kids are not fans of chores, but if I can find a system that gets them to love them and actually do them, that would be amazing.
As a former teacher, I really love this method but admittedly, I love the look of the cards. So many things gear for kids are not aesthetically pleasing…well done!
That was one of my criteria’s, to make cards that were not only effective but that were attractive! I know what you mean about things for kids not being aesthetically pleasing. Drives me nuts!
Once my daughter is old enough, I will definitely be having a chore chart.
What a brilliant idea for setting up chores for the little ones! I love the system that you’ve put in place… it’s sure to work for those with children.
Thank you, Emily!
This looks like a good system. My kids have a hard time believing me that the same chores exist everyday without me telling them.
Rachel, your comment made me laugh! That’s how it used to be here too! This chore system seemed to help with that. I think my kids are still surprised by the same chores it’s just that I don’t have to hear all about it anymore, lol!
This is such a great system. My daughter is 3 and we are slowing working chores into her day.
Steph, that is such a great age to start! These cards have pictures-that is for the little ones your daughters age-since they cannot read yet!
This is such a great idea, so awesome for kids!
Thank you, Adrianna!
This is soo neat! My eldest daughter strives off routine and would really benefit from doing something like this! Great post
Thank you, AM! Kids need routine for sure!
I’ve been searching for some new ideas for chores for my children. This is great and so perfectly timed!
KimberlyCruzLopez, I hope this works for you! It’s available in my Etsy shop for just $12.00 now!
This is such a great idea! And having both the pictures and words on their is so important for emergent reading skills! Great work!
Thank you, Amanda! Yes, the pictures are for the non readers-when parents wait till the child can read to assign chores it doesn’t work very well. So this helps with that issue!
This is fantastic! And yes…I have a big family, and I believe this would work. Thank you for the inspiration!
Ceci! I hope it works for you!
I love this idea!! How cute! My kids seems to really react well to chart systems.
Thank you, Brittany! Most kids do thrive with effective ones-especially when there are rewards!
I love this! We do a helping hands system that allows the boys to choose a helper job for the day!
Erin, that’s great! In my chore system I call it “Acts of Service” 🙂
This is a really good idea!! I love how simple it is.
Thank you, Elizabeth! Yes, the simplicity is one of my favorite features too!
my niece and nephews are fighting over chores so this is something that my sister would find helpful! kids need to learn household chores as it will help when they live independently and learn how to handle responsibility.
This totally eliminated fighting over who’s chores were who’s in our home, Mallie! Hopefully it works as well for your sister!
I definitely need to look closely into this system! Some days my kids get their chores done no problem… other days not so much!
I hope this works for you, Sherry Lee!
What a fun idea! I love that your kids are responsible for completing their own chores. Great way to keep track too!
Thank you, Mindful Mama Health! Yes, it does help the kids be more responsible and takes a lot off the mama that way.
What a clever way to organize chores for the kids and I love that it also has pictures for children who aren’t able to read yet. It allows you to start teaching responsibility at an earlier age.
Thank you, Samantha! Yes, the non readers are what the pictures are for :-)!
This colorful and organized chart is so smart! I think any kid would love it!
Thank you, Jen!
Oh this is a great chores system! Effective and also looks good.

It is! We love it!
What chic little chore chart system! I love it!
Thank you, Marta!!
I have a niece and nephew struggling with chores so I will pass this on and see if it helps them.
Awesome! I hope it works for them like it does us!
