I got a message recently from a sweet subscriber:
“I’m homeschooling littles. I have a baby and a toddler.
I am in the trenches.
I feel like I am drowning.
How do you balance it all?
And can I let the dishes go if it means prioritizing home cooking, education, and health?”
In today’s video, How to Change Your Life in 6 Months as a Christian Homemaker, I’m answering her question
Here’s the truth:
I don’t balance everything.
I prioritize.
If you want to know How to Change Your Life in 6 Months as a Christian Homemaker, it all starts right here. With knowing how to prioritize a few top basic needs.
I like to start with basic needs when I set my priorities because without them, life simply cannot sustain itself, let alone thrive. For me, basic needs do include spiritual and physical.
1. Faith First. Always.
Faith is everything to me when it comes to spiritual care.
And I say that coming from a background of CPTSD,
a long history of spiritual and emotional abuse,
and being raised in a very legalistic culture —
one where outward performance mattered more than actually knowing Christ.
One thing that helped me heal was reading Scripture in different translations and using tools like the YouVersion app.
Something about hearing the Word in a fresh voice helps you meet God again — without the weight of legalism attached. If you’ve been spiritually wounded, this is a gentle way back to His heart.
And let me tell you…
There is no glow-up like the one that comes from drawing closer to God.
Knowing He is there.
He’s got you.
He loves you.
That is the real transformation.
2. Physical Needs: Sleep!!!
Let’s talk survival for a second.
Air, water, food, clothing, shelter, sleep. These are all things we must have to live. We’re focusing on just two today, sleep and food — both are most homemaker’s Achilles heel.
One piece of advice I cannot stand is:
“Just wake up before the kids.”
Now personally, I do wake up before my kids —but ONLY because I go to bed before everyone else in this house.
Because sleep deprivation is not cute. Sleep deprivation will steal our health. Let’s look at some known problems it causes:
- Memory issues
- Brain fog
- Higher stress + cortisol (hello belly fat!)
- Emotional instability
- Lower immunity
- Slower metabolism
- Faster aging of your skin
- Snappiness, anger, irritability
- Mood swings
- Increased anxiety and depression
The fact is, most adults need 7–9 hours of sleep. If you’re not getting it, your whole spiritual, emotional, and physical system malfunctions.
So if you want to How to Change Your Life in 6 Months as a Christian Homemaker, your glow-up starts with going to bed.
3. Physical Needs: Food
And now for my personal confession…
I forget to eat. All the time.
And when I forget, here’s what happens:
- My blood sugar crashes
- I get anxious, irritated, and overwhelmed
- My energy drops
- My hormones freak out
- I lose more hair
- I feel sad, unmotivated, and exhausted
- My stress skyrockets
- Everything looks like a crisis
My husband knows —if I’m falling apart emotionally, all he has to do is hand me a plate of food and five bites in I’m like:
“Wow… life is beautiful again.”
Remember, Homemaking Is a Ministry
Taking care of your family — feeding them, nurturing them, discipling them — this is kingdom work.
Even the unseen, unglamorous parts.
But you can’t minister from burnout.
You can’t serve from depletion.
You can’t pour from fumes.
Caring for yourself is not selfish —
it’s stewardship.
Care for your spirit.
Care for your body.
Care for your home one small step at a time.
This is how you change your life and in turn the lives around you.
