Summer is here and we all know what that means! It’s time for popsicles! Today I’m excited to share this healthy popsicle recipe for kids (or grownups). You may be asking, “what makes them healthy?” I’m glad you asked! This popsicle recipe contains probiotics! Everyone knows how probiotics are touted to support gut health, right?

Last year we moved from the Midwest to the PNW and ever since then our bodies have been adjusting. Because of this I’ve been looking for more ways to support our health. When I saw Tropicana Essentials Probiotics in the juice section at Walmart I snatched one up. I wasn’t sure if my kids would like it or not, a couple of them are picky, but I figured it was worth a try.

The Probiotics

The juice blend contains bifidobacterium lactis. I’m not sure why the front title says “probiotics” (plural) because the bifidobacterium is the only probiotic labeled in the ingredients. This specific probiotic can take awhile to produce results. However, according to Natasha McBride in her book The Gut And Psychology Syndrome it can take up to 6 months for any good probiotic to take hold and produce results. Most good probiotics are a little pricey. So I’m not expecting much from the probiotic in this drink, but I’m hoping the theory that every little bit counts truly does count in this case!

Did The Kids Like It…

Aaaannnnd, it turns out my picky brood all love it! I can’t keep it stocked fast enough. When they go through a couple bottles in a day and they request it to be put on the grocery list for next shopping trip!

One day my middle son decided to get creative sometime after I bought the second bottle. He started making his own popsicles with the probiotics juice.

Healthy Popsicle Recipe for Kids-recipe by a kid!

So the recipe-well, since it’s by a kid it really couldn’t be easier. All you need is the juice, popsicle sticks, and ice trays.

I am going to get this popsicle maker for the kids because my hooligans were having too much trouble keeping the popsicle sticks standing in the ice trays before the popsicles actually froze. A few would always fall over before the liquid would freeze. My middle boy can be a little dramatic sometimes so his mournful wails as the popsicle sticks would fall over were efficient prompts to find a better way to make popsicles. 😆

So far we’ve tried all three flavors and the kids like them all.

The Only Problem

The only problem with this Tropicana Essentials Probiotics is that it does contain natural flavors. If you follow the Food Babe….well, you know what that could include. I won’t tell the kids for now, but I might call the company and request that the natural flavors be removed. I’ll probably ask them to consider adding more probiotic strains too. And while I wait for that to happen I might make our own from scratch using juice and my most trusted kids probiotic.

I’ll keep you posted as that progresses. In the mean time I hope you try and enjoy my son’s healthy popsicle recipe for kids!
