With so many people transiting from work places outside the home to working from home I thought it might be fun for some of my readers (and hopefully even helpfully inspiring for some) if I were to do an eclectic home office tour, especially since I’ve never done one before!
The office has been an interesting room to organize and arrange. This room started out as a bedroom for our older boys at which time I decorated it in an industrial style. We all loved the look so much, but I don’t think they even had the room for a year before we all decided it was too small for them and that it would work better as a family office for a variety of reasons. So we transitioned this room into an office and put them in the room we had been using as an office and family room.
It’s been a work in progress and at some point we would like to add some built-in shelving on one of the walls underneath the stairs. For now I feel like it is slightly more cluttered than I would like it to be but it works for us!
Eclectic Home Office Tour
The wall under the window where the most light is where we have an industrial style desk made basically with 2 filing cabinets and a walnut desktop that is secured on top of the cabinets and against the wall. We like this desk because it’s big enough that at least 2 people can sit at it comfortably at a time. This desk style was so affordable and easy to make, and it is exceedingly functional. The top part is long enough we could put in another filing cabinet in the middle if we needed the storage space but we haven’t needed it. I found these filing cabinets on Amazon and I spray painted the handle’s gold for a more upscale industrial look.
Underneath the desk I’ve installed some hooks to hang earphones from so they are not laying on top of the desk all the time (or worse, the floor). I’ve corralled some of the items that are used daily in baskets for the kids, and of course we love having an essential oil diffuser in this room to help with destressing and focus.
I love gallery walls and so the wall under The stairs has a gallery of my photography among other things.
The back wall is painted a Dark blue shade with 2 industrial style lights and this industrial style clock I found at Walmart. We have a large and a small bookshelf against this wall.
I found this unique antique wooden box and like having it on top of the large bookshelf. I think it looks super cool!
For months I had wanted a cozy chair for the office, and one day my husband was given two of the chairs (below) by one of his clients and we love it! I felt like it tied in with the rest of the room fairly well.
Also against the last wall we have our herb hutch (I found it at a thrift store for $15.00!) and in the corner is more storage. We bought the corner entertainment system when we first moved in but it’s one of those items that I wish I had not purchased. Rather than trying to sell it I found a use for it as a bookshelf and closet basically. In the opposite corner is a wooden hamper my husband made. We don’t use it as a hamper any longer, instead we just use it as storage and it is where my husband keeps some of his work things.
This is definitely a room where we made do with what we had, and although not every area in here is one I would consider super Pinterest worthy it is super functional and a super peaceful room to be in! Be sure to check out more posts I have featuring some of our other eclectic boho rooms!
