Friends! You can totally transform your school or office space with these easy fabric book covers! I started out with binder covers for my recipes and DIY Nature Journal Book Covers but after I made those for the main area of our home I realized how easy it would be to cover ALL the ugly books in our spaces! I haven’t yet, but eventually this is a project on my to do list.
For now I’m so happy with our nature journal book covers.
One of our very favorite days in our homeschool is Wednesday. That’s because it’s our day for nature walks. When we lived in the Midwest the kids would go out to the backyard and find all kinds of interesting things to study and notebook about. But here in the PNW I think they are having a lot more fun, partially because of the beauty all around us! But also because it wasn’t long after being here before we were invited to join an actual weekly nature walk outing with a group of other Charlotte Mason homeschoolers.
Read about our family’s primary curriculum HERE.
Our nature walks have now taken new heights and are so much fun for all of us! If you like doing nature walks but don’t have a group yet I would like to encourage you to try to get one together. Group nature walks are so rich and full of even more learning!
On nature walk days we always come home with unique and beautiful relics from nature. I was thrilled to find these cool, rough cut wooden bowls and a good friend’s yardsale last month. She only wanted $2.50 a piece for them! They are perfect for displaying our finds.
Of course part of our nature walk is journaling. To be honest, we are still working on mastering this part. But we are getting there.
My boys especially hate writing and so I have to get on them to write about what they’ve found. They don’t mind the drawing part though!
Since our homeschool space is in our dining room, which is in our main living area, I like to keep the space pretty.
So after awhile of seeing the ugly blue sketch pads on display all the time I decided to make some pretty sketchpad covers for the kids nature notebooks.
The kids loved them! I’m not a fan of sewing. But when our 6 year old saw his, he gasped, threw his arms around me and exclaimed, “I love it! Thank you mama!” it was worth the hassle of sewing this particular project!
The covers could not be easier to make. Once again, I’m not a fan of sewing. I’d rather crochet, take pictures, write-anything but sew! So this is a very simple tutorial. Although using a ruler would have made them a little more exact and slightly nicer perhaps, I didn’t use one. I simply used a pencil to make lines to sew on. The tricky part was that these had spiral binding. Here’s a video tutorial on how I made them.
If you liked this post there’s a Charlotte Mason Instamom I’ve got to tell you all about! Her name is Nicole Shiffler and she has THIS VERY AWESOME STORY HIGHLIGHT jam packed with lovely nature walk and journaling crafts.

While I was searching for that bee print I found this one I thought would be neat as well!

What cute notebook covers! I definitely want to try making my own too!
It’s crazy that I’ve never taken the time to cover the kids’ schoolbooks. You’d think the fact that I resell a lot of our curriculum would make that a no-brainer, but I haven’t…until now!
I absolutely love this idea! This is great for any kid too!
I love this little DIY! Super cute!

Love this idea! I’m not very crafty but I think I could manage this 🙂

Such a pretty diy! I’ll have to do it too!
