I’ve been wanting to overhaul the master bedroom for months, and when I was contacted by Mapiful with a request to collaborate I knew it was time to do this bold orange and teal boho bedroom makeover with 6 tips sharing how you too can transform your space into a boho bolthole on a budget!
We are beyond happy with how this bedroom makeover turned out. One of the most special things about the master bedroom is that since my husband and I sat down together and chose colors and some elements, the room now reflects both of us. We didn’t realize it till afterward, but the colors we landed on were actually in our wedding too!
Before I go on, you can watch a video tour of our BOLD Orange And Teal Boho Bedroom Makeover on YouTube if you like but be sure to read the 6 tips I have for you below because they are not in the video.
BOLD Orange And Teal Boho Bedroom Makeover with Mapiful
What Is Mapiful?
Mapiful is a printing company that create’s custom map art combined with your quote to preserve special memories that you value. Maps are printed on FSC certified, museum grade paper to ensure quality and sustainability.
When I told my husband about Mapiful it didn’t take us long at all to decide we wanted a map of Estes Park, Colorado. Colorado is where we first met as kids in the 80’s, and again as adults in our 20’s. So naturally, it’s where we chose to have a beautiful and semi private spring mountain wedding and part of our honeymoon.
The Mapiful experience was great, it was easy to place my order (they have a lot of fun choices) and the maps were all customizable-even the colors.
BOLD Orange And Teal Boho Bedroom Makeover With 6 Tips
If you would like to makeover your bedroom, giving it a boho look on a budget here are the biggest things we did in our room to get the look we did.
- Pick your colors, and I have some tips as you do this. I suggest using a color wheel. We chose complementary colors (contrasting colors which are colors opposite each other on a color wheel). Obviously we choose bold dark teal and orange shades (we used Tempest by Kilz (RE209-01 B3) and Georgia Clay by Pratt & Lambert Paints (cj336g). Next I went and got paint swatches which I suggest you do before you get the paint. I had to shop around a bit to get just the right colors. I suggest getting two copies of the swatches so you can keep one in a safe place and one in your purse/wallet for reference as you are shopping.
- I changed the curtains in the room. Changing curtains can create a huge change in the room and for us this drastically changed the look (watch the video to see).
- Change the bedspread or dye the one you have. We chose to dye ours to try to save money, but it would have been cheaper to buy a new one, lol! Again, the right bedspread can make or break a look in a bedroom!
- Add simple boho shapes, like our orange arch and circle, to the walls.
- Gather pieces from around your home that have the colors you’ve chosen for the room, or hit the thrift stores and make sure you bring your paint swatches. In our case I gathered orange and teal boho pieces that I had scattered through the house and brought them to the bedroom.
- Add more plants. I’m not sure if you can ever have enough!
- Add a gallery wall for an eclectic look or get a map from Mapiful for a more minimalistic boho vibe.
- Add pampas grass- nothing says “modern boho” like papas grass!
- Add lights! We already had these and we love these COPPER ONES from Amazon.
I do hope you’ve enjoyed BOLD Orange And Teal Boho Bedroom Makeover With 6 Tips and that it’s inspired you to make changes in your bedroom if you’re not currently happy with it.
