Before I share 5 Sanity Saving Holiday Tips for Homeschool Moms, I first want to tell you about a series I’ve started on my YouTube channel. It’s a SUPER FUN Homeschool Mom Clean With Me For The Holidays Series where I’m doing some “clean with me’s” and sharing some of my best cleaning tips and hacks that work. The series is mostly set to fun, upbeat music and is super entertaining! I’m even giving you a peek at how MESSY my house can get. So be sure to head over there when you are done here to catch that series (I’ll link to it at the end of this article).

I don’t know about you, but this is the time of year when homeschool mom anxiety doesn’t just creep in for me (and I know for many of you), but it walks in loudly announcing that it owns the place. Everywhere I look, left and right I see other mama’s doing the most special things like advent, cookies, holiday crafts, reading through special books and more, all to make the holidays more special and meaningful and I feel such a strong pull to do the same for my family.

But here’s the thing. I’m a mom of six and I’m homeschooling kids from preschool all the way through to high school (I now have hired help for the older kids but they still need my help too). I’m at max capacity and squeezing one more thing in means something else must go.

So how can a mama like me possibly even dream of doing one more thing, like making the holiday’s special for my family?

Over the last couple years I’ve been awkwardly working on mastering the art of homeschool mom holiday amazingness. Here’s what I’ve learned.

5 Sanity Saving Holiday Tips for Homeschool Moms

  1. Let the kids do the decorating. They’ll love this, and actually have waaaaaay more fun enjoying the décor than if you had done it for them
  2. WHEN IT COMES TO FOOD; I’ve got a couple hacks. Menu plan festive food (you’ve got to eat anyways so why not make it festive) but not just for the holiday. Start planning in advance and make several of the same dish, freezing part to enjoy before and after the holiday. Even if part of it is premade or semi homemade. MASTER TIP-MAKE THE KIDS MENU PLAN-bonus points if they are old enough that you can have them menu plan food they can make! Lastly, if you have grocery pickup services TAKE ADVANTAGE of it to save time and avoid grocery shopping madness! Be sure to get as much as you can at least a week early!
  3. Add special touches to what you already have to do anyways. In our home it looked like this; I had to make playdough so I made “Christmas Playdough” (I made a Christmas green and red). Also I make my own bread because too (not because I’m one of “those” mom’s, but because many of us have food sensitivities and it’s too expensive to buy the kind we can eat that doesn’t bother us as bad). So instead of regular bread I made “Thanksgiving and Christmas Bread” (I shaped it different than normal, lol). Maybe it won’t be bread in your home, but I’m sure there’s something you make you can add a holiday twist to!
  4. Don’t do it all the cleaning and prep yourself-have the kids help and tell them if they help you there will be more time for making cookies/playing games etc… (and follow through).
  5. Just do what you can, and remember simplicity plus love and quality time trumps everything else! For me this looks like putting post it notes all around the house to remind me of the REASON FOR THE SEASON and the BREATHE!
