Being a stay-at-home mom is a beautiful calling—but let’s be honest—it can feel chaotic. From endless laundry to meal prep and constant interruptions and noise, it’s easy to feel like you’re spinning your wheels. But what if you could take back control of your day, find calm amidst the clutter, and actually enjoy the rhythm of homemaking?
Here are five practical ways to conquer daily chaos and cultivate joy in your home.

1. Have a Daily Tidy-Up Time
A cluttered home can make your mind feel cluttered, too. Set aside just 15–30 minutes each day for a daily tidy-up. Put away toys, clear counters, and straighten up your living spaces. Not only does this create a calmer environment, but it gives you a small sense of accomplishment each day—proof that progress is happening, even when life feels busy.
We started a daily “power pick up time” when my kids were still young, so now it’s a very natural part of our day. I’ve found that one tidy up time is great, but you can split up that time into segments too. This actually works better sometimes. So like a “power pick up time” before lunch, before dinner, and if you all have the energy one before bed is especially gratifying because it means you will have a fresh start the next day.
By the way, if you are struggling to teach your children good habits, like how to pick up after themselves, brush their teeth, take their vitamins, and do their little chores, I might be able to help you. I have a chore chart system that I created for kids that helps with not only chores, but building good habits. You can check that out in my store HERE.
2. Create a Command Center & Check In Daily
A command center is a central spot in your home where all schedules, reminders, and plans come together. Think calendar, planner, and any mail or notes that need attention. When all of these things have a place, you’ll feel less scattered and more in control.
3. Write It Down
Not everything can be tidied or finished in five minutes. Instead of letting tasks swirl in your mind, write them down in your planner at your command center. Whether it’s errands, appointments, or longer projects, putting it on paper frees mental space and gives you a clear plan for the day or week.
If you need a good planner specifically for homemakers, I do have one for sale. My planner was created specifically for homemakers’ erratic schedules, and is designed for maximum productivity with minimum waste. GET IT HERE.
4. Batch Cook & Meal Plan
Cooking can feel like a never-ending cycle. Take back your time by meal planning (I use the RECIME APP for this and LOVE it), and batch cooking—double or triple as many meals as you possibly can. Freeze extras or store for later in the week. This not only reduces daily stress but also gives you more time for family, quiet moments, or even a few extra minutes to savor a cup of tea.
5. Delegate, Eliminate, or Put on a “To-Do Later” List
You don’t have to do it all. Delegate tasks to family members, eliminate what’s unnecessary, or simply put things on a “to-do later” list. This creates boundaries, helps your family participate in household life, and keeps your day from spiraling out of control.
Bonus Tip
Life as a mom has seasons of survival, where just getting through the day feels like an achievement. But if you stay in “survival mode” too long without carving out time to savor the little pleasures, burnout is inevitable.
Treat yourself with small rewards: fresh-picked flowers, a new vase, a fun apron, a luxurious cleaner, or a quiet cup of tea. These tiny acts remind you that homemaking can be delightful, not just duty. Joyful moments like this recharge your spirit and help you approach your day with renewed energy.
Embrace the Joy in Simple Routines
Chaos will always try to creep in, but with these strategies, you can create pockets of calm and find satisfaction in the little things. Homemaking doesn’t have to feel overwhelming—it can be a source of joy when approached intentionally.
Remember: small routines done consistently bring order, peace, and even delight to your home. Celebrate your wins, even the tiny ones—they add up faster than you think!
