If you are looking for some winner 4th Of July hot dog bar recipes you’ve come to the right place! I first did a 4th of July Hot Dog Bar around 3 years ago, and it was such a hit that we kept it going every year since! One of the reasons it stuck around is because hot dog bars aren’t simply yummy-but they are SO EASY! When I do my hot dog bar I’ve found the key is keeping it to only around 4 different hot dog recipes. That way everyone gets a taste of everything (some just do half dogs).
Planning A Hot Dog Bar
I think one reason my hot dog bar’s are so successful is because I plan the hot dog bar after taking family poll’s to learn what everyone likes, and then I kick things up a few notches! In our family we had a very wide range of favorite flavors, so I think the combination of recipes I’ve come up with here are fairly sure to please everyone. Here are the hot dog types our family digs:
- American
- German
- Chipotle
- Jalapeno Cheddar
The key to keeping it simple is preparation-and getting the same hot dog-we prefer Nathan’s or Hebrew National. Don’t cook up several actual hot dog brands and types-that’s too complicated and hard to keep them separate. If you are hosting a big family gathering that will just add confusion for everyone and stress you out. By the time you have the toppings on you’ll never know the difference between the types anyways.
I like to prepare as much as I can the day before, and keep everything in the fridge in the serving dishes so it’s ready to go. The only exception is the onions. Although I cook them the day before I do have to reheat them the day I serve them. I like to serve them still in the skillet for presentation and ease.
I serve everything buffet style, and I give each hot dog style it’s own space-This way there’s no confusion of what to put on the dog! The first year I think I even labeled each section-or maybe I wanted to but ran out of time, I can’t remember anymore!
4th Of July Hot Dog Bar Recipes
American Style:
We all know this style. Hot dog, mustard, relish, ketchup, mayo (or not-our family is split down the middle on this one). I kept one style as American because I knew a couple family members would be nervous to try anything else and I was right. They were relieved to see the good ole American hot dog option, but it’s funny because curiosity got the best of them! In the end they liked the other styles better! The kids only wanted the American version, of course.
German Style:
Hot dog, German Mustard, and the option of sauerkraut and/or saute’d onions! This is our first fourth away from our Missouri cousins, and so I’ll really miss cousin’s Neil and Beth’s homemade sauerkraut. They make the best!
Chipotle Style:
My personal favorite!
- 1 cup mayo
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 can of chipotle peppers minced with adobo
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
If you are like me and really like the spice you can use the whole can of peppers! By the way, this also makes an addictive chip dip.
Jalapeno Cheddar Style:
My other fav. Minced Jalapenos, grated cheddar, and mayo or butter for the buns. Or, if you are like me and reaaaaalllly like the spice you can always use the chipotle sauce!
